Want to join a book club, but unsure which one is for you? Here’s a handy guide to help you out! We have numerous book clubs to choose from depending on the type of reader you are.
First up, the Silent Book Club, which meets the first Thursday of each month. This book club has low commitment: you bring a book you are interested in and get very cozy in our Blake Gallery with some refreshments. The librarian will start a timer for one hour and the reading commences. This book club’s goal is for you to have connection to the community, with time set aside for reading! After the hour is up, the group can give a brief introduction to their book. Perfect for the introverted reader looking to get out of their shell!
The next book club we will be highlighting is aimed at our extroverts: Books on Tap. This book club meets on the third Thursday of every month. Read outside the box and meet outside the library! This social, casual group will meet at local bars and restaurants to discuss books that push us out of our comfort zones. Over dinner & drinks, we’ll dive into new genres and literary forms while getting to know fellow Wakefield readers.
If you are interested in a book club but don’t have time for a long novel, try out our My Favorite Poem Club. On the second Wednesday of every month, we meet in the library’s Living Room to discuss a poem. We keep it cozy and relaxed, and you absolutely don’t have to be a poetry expert to join our casual conversation!
Last but not least we have Books by the Lake. This book club needs no introduction, as it is our oldest and most established book group. It’s a spirited, sometimes rowdy, mix of longtime attendees and newer members, and titles are chosen annually by ballot.
Reading with a group adds perspective and builds community. Come try it out!
